Amazon Brings On Disney Veteran To Work On The Lord Of The Rings TV Show

Amazon Studios has announced a new hire who will help lead the charge for the marketing and promotion of the network’s big-budget Lord of the Rings TV show and its other projects.

The company has hired Greg Coleman to become the new global head of franchise marketing, with a start date of March 1, according to Deadline. He will report to Amazon Studios chief marketing office of Prime Video, Ukonwa Ojo.

Coleman, who came to Amazon after a successful run at Disney where he helped launch the Frozen franchise, will take the lead on creating marketing campaigns for Amazon Studio’s sci-fi and fantasy TV movies and TV shows, including Lord of the Rings.

Given that Amazon is reportedly spending over $1 billion to produce the Lord of the Rings TV show, it’s expected that it will have a significant marketing push. However, the specifics of Coleman’s plans to promote and hype the fantasy show are not yet available–he doesn’t start until March 1, after all.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who is stepping down from his role but will remain a central decision-maker for Amazon going forward, was said to have personally spearheaded the deal to acquire the Lord of the Rings TV rights and is a big fan of fantasy himself.

We still haven’t seen a trailer or gotten a release date for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show, but you can check out GameSpot’s roundup of all the key Lord of the Rings TV show details so far to get up to speed with what we know about the ambitious TV series.
